Service Description
For many fans and critics, the Beatles reached their summit of creativity in 1967. The year's three singles surrounded both the epoch-defining LP, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and the group's innovative psychedelic film, Magical Mystery Tour. In this four-week course, we'll examine both the A- and B-sides of these monumental gifts to the cosmos. Paul McCartney guides us through his memories of Liverpool in "Penny Lane" • John Lennon wrestles with his childhood insecurities in "Strawberry Fields Forever" • The Beatles lead the worldwide summer of love with "All You Need Is Love" • Brian Epstein inspires consideration of A-list celebrities in "Baby You're a Rich Man" • Paul McCartney charms despite contradiction in "Hello Goodbye" • John Lennon challenges his self-appointed song analysts "I Am the Walrus" Over four Monday evenings May 8, 15, 22 (skipping Memorial Day) and June 5th (5:30-6:15 PM, EST, each evening), expect lively discussion as Walter Everett draws on a lifetime of scholarship and Jack Petruzzelli and Cameron Greider share their perspective as recording and touring musicians.
